Tourism in Western Europe
The 1980s and 1990s have seen a proliferation of the term 'tourist' destination. Improbable places such as industrial cities and isolated rural environments have become legitimate places to visit. At the same time, traditional tourist destinations such as coastal resorts have declined in popularity. There is a shift from 'old' to 'new' tourism. These case histories examine these issues.
